Your Guide to LocalArtist: The Easiest Way to Find Creative Classes in LA

LocalArtist is a new platform that makes it easy to discover and book creative classes across Los Angeles, from pottery and painting to music and cooking. Here's everything you need to know.

Your Guide to LocalArtist: The Easiest Way to Find Creative Classes in LA

If you've ever Googled "pottery classes near me" or "things to do in LA this weekend," you know how frustrating the results can be. You end up bouncing between random Instagram pages, outdated Yelp listings, and studio websites that look like they were last updated in 2019. And by the time you actually find something that sounds fun, it's either sold out, way across the city, or you can't even figure out how to book it.

We built LocalArtist because that whole experience felt broken.

LocalArtist is a platform where you can discover, compare, and book creative classes happening all over Los Angeles. Pottery, painting, cooking, music, textiles, photography... if it's creative and it's happening in LA, it's here. We connect students with independent studios and instructors so you can stop researching and start making stuff.

This is our very first blog post, so think of it as a full walkthrough. We'll cover what LocalArtist actually is, what kinds of classes are on the platform, how everything works, and why we think it's worth your time.

What is LocalArtist?

LocalArtist is a marketplace for creative experiences in Los Angeles. Studios and instructors list their classes and manage bookings on one side. Students browse, discover new things, and book a spot on the other. Everything lives in one place.

We built it because we love what LA's creative scene has to offer, and we think way more people should have access to it. There are hundreds of amazing studios scattered around this city. Ceramics workshops in Silver Lake. Painting nights in Santa Monica. Cooking classes in Culver City. Music lessons in Echo Park. But until now, they've never really had a shared home online. LocalArtist changes that.

It doesn't matter if you're a total beginner who's never touched clay, a group of friends looking for something to do on Saturday, or someone who just wants a hobby that doesn't involve staring at a screen. The platform is built to make that first step feel easy.

What Kinds of Classes Can You Find?

LA's creative community is wildly diverse, and we want the platform to reflect that. Here's a snapshot of the categories you'll find on LocalArtist, with more being added all the time.

Pottery & Ceramics. Easily one of the most popular categories. Beginner wheel-throwing, hand-building workshops, glazing sessions. There's something about working with clay that just hits different. A lot of studios let you take your finished piece home after it's been fired, which is a nice bonus.

Painting & Drawing. Casual paint-and-sip nights, structured watercolor workshops, life drawing sessions. Painting is probably the most accessible starting point if you're new to all of this. You really don't need any experience to have a great time.

Music & Sound. Guitar lessons, songwriting workshops, DJ classes, jam sessions. If you've been saying "I should really learn guitar" for the last three years, this is your sign.

Cooking & Culinary Arts. LA's food scene speaks for itself. Cooking classes let you get hands-on with it. Fresh pasta, sushi rolling, global cuisines, all guided by local chefs who actually know what they're doing.

Photography. Learn the basics of composition and lighting, or get into more advanced portrait and street photography. A great way to start seeing the city differently.

And a lot more. Jewelry making, candle pouring, floral arrangement, textile arts, collage, journaling. The list keeps growing as more studios join. If it's creative and it's in LA, we want it on LocalArtist.

How It Works

We kept this really simple on purpose.

Browse. Head to the Explore page and filter by category, neighborhood, date, or price. You can also check out the For You page for personalized picks and local favorites.

Book. See something you like? Book your spot right on the platform. You'll get instant confirmation. No waiting around for email replies or Instagram DMs.

Show up and create. That's literally it. Walk into the studio, meet your instructor, and make something. Whether it's your first time or your fiftieth, every session is a chance to learn something new and meet cool people.

Meetups: Free Creative Hangouts Across LA

This is the part we get most excited talking about.

Meetups are free, in-person creative gatherings that we host around Los Angeles. They're not classes. There's no instructor, no lesson plan, no pressure to make anything specific. They're just spaces where people who are into creativity can show up, hang out, and actually do something together in real life.

A sunset jam session at Venice Beach. A sketch hangout at a park in Los Feliz. A casual collage night at a coffee shop. That kind of thing.

Meetups are totally free and open to everyone. You don't need to be an artist. You don't need experience. You just need to show up. Check the Community page to see what's coming up.

Honestly, we think some of the best creative experiences aren't really about the skills you pick up. They're about the people you meet while you're learning. Meetups are how we make that happen outside the classroom.

Why We Built This

Los Angeles is one of the most creative cities on the planet, but actually finding and booking a class shouldn't feel like a part-time job. We wanted to make it genuinely easy for anyone to walk into a studio and try something new.

We also wanted to do right by the studios and instructors who make this city's creative culture what it is. A lot of them are small businesses and independent artists who are really, really good at what they do but don't have the bandwidth to run a marketing operation on top of it. LocalArtist helps them reach new students and grow their communities without having to become content creators on the side.

We're still early. The platform is in beta, and we're building it alongside the studios and students who use it every day. If you have thoughts, ideas, or even just want to say hey, we'd love to hear from you.

Ready to Try Something New

If you've read this far, you're probably at least a little curious. Here's what we'd say: go to heylocalartist.com and browse the Explore page. See what catches your eye. If something sounds fun, book it. If you want to ease into things first, check out our Meetups on the Community page. They're free, super low-key, and a great way to see what LocalArtist is all about.

We're building this for the creative people of Los Angeles, whether you've been making things your whole life or you're just getting started. Either way, we're really glad you're here.

See you in the studio.
